Help Keep WWPV on the Air & Support Local Media

Help Keep WWPV, Colchester's #1 College Radio Station, on the Air!!! ( more )

Support Local Media like the Colchester Sun, while I am very disappointed in the Colchester Sun for dropping Grace's movie reviews, I understand the need for communities to have locally owned and operated media. My understanding was only affirmed by the town meeting hosted my Senator Sanders regarding media reform.

Hi John,

I read your post about the possible acquisition of WWPV but I am confused about your statement about media reform.

Local media is the lifeblood of communities and, as you pointed out, it is FREE to all. Radio station owners in all markets are suffering because they must operate under stiff ownership rules enacted by the FCC decades ago.

I am working with the National Association of Broadcasters to ask the FCC to modernize ownership rules so that local radio and TV stations continue to thrive.

Thank you for your comments, Mark.

I do think that the FCC rules can and should be reviewed and modernized to provide greater access. On that we can agree.

It is my opinion that local media is best when locally owned and operated.

My error was poorly blending two thoughts into one post.

Go to http://savewwpv.com the thought regarding WWPV.

My only thought regarding the Colchester Sun. I liked the movies reviews done by my neighbor but I still like the Colchester Sun because it makes a more sincere attempt to cover local issues with some detail unlike the Free Press (Gannett) is attempting to do with their "Local Town Editions".

The main issue regarding the Media Reform town meeting hosted by Senator Sanders was centered around media consolidation and "Large Media".

Perhaps, in another comments, you could post some links to sites where there is a discussion regarding the problems where the current FCC rules are inhibiting local ownership of radio media.

I agree with you. Local media is the lifeblood of local communities.
All types of media, television, radio and print.

Best Regards,

John.
